TEHRAN -- Rashtkhar, one of the new towns in Khorasan Province, is home to 24 historical sites.

Also known as the "City of Shining Sun," it has 7 ancient sites belonging to pre-Islam era and even before the birth of Christ.

Researcher Mohammad Qassempour said that the exact dates of the works are unknown but their characteristics are clear evidence for their specific historical periods. He added, "There was a major change in Iranian architecture after the appearance of Islam which is why it is easy to divide the historical works of the region into two sections of before and after Islam."

So far 7 historical works from different eras have been registered. The important point is that major historical changes have played significant role in the structure of the regions such as remains of the populated city of Khizeh, Chahar Borji Castle, Godegi Hill, and Andbekhrad Village.

Unfortunately the region was devastated by an earthquake about 7 hundred years ago depriving it from becoming one of the most distinguished cultural and social poles in the country.
